Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 04:51 on 12th July 2012 Last time I got an note from Babara Shoemaker she was also redoing her Condo back in Wash D. C. . Oh yes, Cathy we found out when we went to sell our other house that we had someone before us that had let thier washing machine leak down in the flooring of the utility room and the wood was infested with termites, we had to stop and repair it and get rid of them before the house went up for sale. But we did get top dollar for it. I don't think we could in the house we live in now...because of the neighbors, at times including us.... haven't kept the yards up...fences painted and completed and shrubs cut back and dead spots cut out. they all work and leave to go someplace else on the weekends. The houses are now 35 years old an need renovated from top to bottom. Not enough time, not enough money. Makes an difference though...in our last house an almost $20,000 difference when it went to be sold....from those houses around us. My freind was an real estate lady...she sold our old houseand helped us pick out this house. We made $20,000 more on the other house and paid $20,000 less for this house....so we put down an 50 per cent down payment....adding to it what we had saved over the years. How long we stay in this house depends on rather my hubby can "get with it" finaincially...so far only for his side of the track...nothing in the "Us" side of it going on right now. I should of never handed over the reins to him. He "exists" in his life, rather then plans for the over all future of things. I don't know if I will be left " homeless" in the days ahead or not. I guess that is being an true "American" from the sounds of what I was listening to the other night...they were saying after the Rev, War plenty of people said we'd never "make it" and then again, during the depression, during WWII...and other times inbetween also. I guess the lesson is, life goes on somehow. To me the best money spent...is done so on simple "Bark Dust"...$24 an pickup load. When its fresh it makes the grass look greener and the spaces more landscaped...adds color also. DebbieA...what happened to those rubber shoes one could slide easily over their regular shoes...I don't see them, when we were kids they were all over the place...an plastic raincoat, or an rain-prooofed "London Fog" trench style coat, an umberella, and the "rubber duckies" as we use to call them worked wonders out in the rain for walking. Go someplace and take them off and slip them into an plastic bag and zipped them shut and into your locker for the day.I think they made tennis shoes like "Sherman Tanks", because they stopped selling them. Very "expensive" Sherman Tanks. I had an idea the other day...Chef type white or black aprons...with an velcor pocket up on the left side...that had interchangable "Holiday" and "Party" icons you could put on and take off....like "Happy Birthday"Logo..or Christmas Greetings....or "Let's Talk Turkey" for Thanksgiving...or the "Sex Pot" and make it an red/white Crock Pot emblem. What an fun thing that would be.Complete with Chef's hat to match. |

I love your posts, you paint quite a picture. And you have unlocked some memories for me too. My mum used to have those little rainhats that folded and unfolded concertina style, she would stick in on her head when it rained and tie it under her chin. Then when it stopped raining she'd simply fold it up again and put it back in her handbag. We also had fold up plastic macs and those see through umbrellas that you pulled down right over your face. I think I had donald duck painted on mine. Today has begun a fine sunny day, so I am singing Mr Blue Sky this morning. |
