The passing of B.B.King is another signal of my advancing age. It’s an age when my “heroes” are now dying due to their number of years on this mortal coil, rather than life’s excesses, ‘plane / car crashes and recklessness. The last couple of years have taken quite a few good old boys and girls who have brought me a whole lot of pleasure, this seemingly being something of an extra rich vein being cut off. Lucille is now silent.

John Nash was a pioneer in the mathematics of game theories and was no doubt a genius, but as with many geniuses, his life was dogged by mental illness.

In John Nash's case it was paranoid schizophrenia, which caused him to have delusions of grandeur and exhibit odd behaviour. Sadly, as with many geniuses, it seems a narrow dividing line between great creativity and madness.

Bobby Collins. Diminutive but hard as nails. He refused to wear anything other than wool socks at the time as I recall, because he hated the nylon ones. Hence, at both Everton and Leeds his white socks / stockings  were always a little less white. He certainly shone in the field though, leaving Everton too soon.

Also, this week has seen the demise of Andy King the chirpy Londoner who played so well for Everton, scoring a fine goal against Liverpool once when I was away on business in London. Bad timing by me!

Cheers Gentlemen, and thank you both.
