Weather is perfect, I'm feeling good. Strawberries and cream on top of pound cake for dessert, and have enjoyed a morning finishing my latest book. This evening, with hubby at work and the house to myself, I will start a new book 'Death Comes to Pemberly' by P.D.James. Hope everybody is enjoying a fine weekend. |

Took the grandkids home..but ended up buying sissy an replacement battery for her computer..90 dollars. "But Grandpa, I have to use it this year in school..... Awww.what I am going to do?" I knew he'd fall for it. We last left her with it plugged in gaining momentum to be used later on. Saw an deer out at the kid's house, and it's very unusal to see them during the day...she said they had the whole bit last night..thunder--lightening...and heavy rain so no doubt this deer was taking an quiet moment to feed before the storms tonight up there. Well, it just started raining here. Love the fresh air smell. I better go and get my kitty cats inside if they aren't already. Talk later on..... Ruth......the Cod,,can you make it like chicken parmigain...I think my friend's receipe include it one time also in the white fish category for it...spagehtetti sauce topped with swiss cheese and spices...you microwave or bake it..then let it set and cool a bit before serving. |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 07:26 on 11th August 2013 I am back...after watching an new real estate show about buying stupid houses in Alaska at ridiculous prices where bears can break in apparently an destroy them if not you. Most of them were so remote if there were an emergency it would take an airplane to get to you if they could then. Can you imagince buying an house that is wired on the outside of the house with electric fencing running off solar power..or an generator to keep the bears from breaking through the boarded up patio door. Is there any price low enough to warrant this..I say "NO"...shoot the dam bear! Let him go live in one of Alaska's many gold mines for the winter. This house had absolutely no fencing around it either...even our pioneers chopped wood and made an wood pile fence around their houses for the winter. If anything they gave them protection to shoot at Indians/bears/or anything else bothering them...that was if the dogs didn't attack them also. They had this long rectangle house like thing18 feet above ground for winter storage for food...with an stairway up to it and an heavy locked all woeden door to it...so the bears would go off in that direction while they loaded up their guns apparently. You ask anyone with an real long term storage pantry and they will tell you to dig in underground several feet to the freezing line if possible...where it's an even 50 degrees year around and don't need to be heated. If you make the enterance to it inside of the house to begin with, door over it...bears most likely wont' find iteven if they did get inside. Anyway, I looked at young kids trying to buy houseboats the fella couldn' t stand straight up in for to low an ceiling roof...ground so soggy the house built on it was sinking....houses with no road access at all...any time of the year, cost you $50 extra to have your monthly groceries flown in...and prices that were ridiculous....talking the $250,000 range. For some time now I've been watching shows like House Hunter international just to see what's out there on the market. But they have come up with this one from Alaska and another one from Hawaii recently...there they showed an retired couple an house that about an half an block away was an ancient "blow hole" for the local volcano near by...I kept shaking my head...NO...not that one people..you never know these days. What if your grandkids were visting an fell down it unexpectedly. But I've also seen houses in the Carribean that you just know in any hurricane is bound to take on the tidal wave from it...recently they showed an house they sold that of all the others sitting on poles in the area... it was ground level. on the sand. Do people actually "think" about what they have being offered to them these days? History lesson...first an square cabin...one end the fireplace...built an room..wide archway between the two rooms and add another fireplace....add an top floor make two more fireplaces up there on each end. Put on the porch....put on the balconies upstairs....Put something around the perimeter to shield it from outside animals...water...people....weather. If at all possible see to it the high fencing has an corner walkway..on each corner for shooting downward at anything botheingr you... as an" look out" tower. Build on high ground...that drains well...and make your storage below the house floor. Try to put in an water source inside your perimeter...such as an well...not an creek or an river flowing past it...unless it'sway below the house so far flooding will never be an problem. Place plenty of firewood inside your perimeter wall also...so anyone shooting back, the bullets won't go through your fencing..or you. Then have the entire works "blessed" by God. User materials that's on the land available such as rocks, trees, and grass if need be for thatching....shells....blades of grass and palm trees fans...etc. Reember the bible..don't build on the sand itself. Try to face the morning sun in the morning getting up....and then the south... for an formal entryway. At least two ways to escape the house in an fire situation. Another wone could be the pantry..if the escape route is unknown by others. Beif history lesson over...I'm headed to bed. it's been an logn day at my house...rain has stopped. It still hasn't amounted to much in my area. Plants and animals up at Mt Hood and across the cascades must of welcomed it though. |
