Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 19:19 on 22nd November 2013 Ron, I wonder also...JFK...I heard gave "hope" to the world is why he was so loved and missed at his death...he had an good sense of combining his family life with his professional life also...or until Marylin Monroe came along. I think he did much more that that he gave us an sense of an path to the future. He instilled people rolling up their sleeve arms and taking action to help make things happen that were for an good cause also. For Government he didn't say you "couldn't"..... but rather try it.... and see if it works out better for everyone...if it does...we keep the idea and expand on it. For some time I've mentioned when my son was growing up my house was kind of the Neighborhood house for everyone. I noticed back then how many kids were raising themselves primarily...and came to my house for a bit of warmth, and food, and rest, and an place to have an "family" atmosphere...something they didn't have at home for one reason or another. Most of them had parents living in houses three times larger then my house was...but the atmosphere at home was one of "loneliness' most the time with brothers and sisters sent off to the care of other people also...both parents worked and the day time was schedules like it was often when they came home from a day of work. There was no "family time" so as to say. So it was these kids had an group of kids, often many like them and they would go from house to house and live with friends an couple of days and then go to another house...and so forth. I called them homeless...but clean and well accepted by most their friend's parents, because they weren't "bad kids", bullies or mean in any way really. Well, the high schools have finally discovered they exist also. They took an survey amoung the high school students and found out there were 18,265 of them. Of that group...1,373 of them live in Beaverton, one of our wealither suburban areas. Kind of tells you what the "now days" of no parents at home inspires in society. I have seen these kids literally show up with no clothes, cause they boron them, I've seen kids take an McDonalds hamburger out of the sack and hand the whole thing to one of them along with the receipt and tell them to go tell them they left out the hamburger so they could have lunch, they had an "ring" going of traveling and transporation needs going by everyone they knew..esp their friends parents. Theywere indeed "homeless" without beign really homeless as we think if it. Schools are saying they could do better if they weren't having to spend all their time on whom they could go home with next though. Many of them have low grades for that reason. Though we parents know these days that they steryo type the students many times by what help they get form the parents in the way of money.Plus they wouldn't dare discriminate against an kid with CEO prarents in school either..so how much "clout" the parents have also counts. Remember the Combine High School shootings and they asked the one kid why he did it...and he said so the "preppies" could understand that they have the same red flowing blood all the rest of us have....and can " die" like we do..... daily being made to live underneath them socially. If he only knew the pressures they have upon their backs to be "one better" then others also. Many times they are the ones out there doing drugs.... and teenage alcoholics. They have problems in needing money to de-tox with in their lives. But anyway....interesting read on this ...my area is ripe for the both types at times. But then again, I knew that an long time ago. This area was the so called "Beaverton" before they went to the west side to build it's massive suburban housing projects for lack of land here Its an very cold day out there today...sunny and very cold with an wind to it all that chills to the bone if your out in it. . The cold snap is suppose to stay here for at least two more days.Animals all want out seeing the sunshine, but it's an bit iffy letting them out for very long. I best go for now. Warming centers are open now all over the place and along the freeways for people to stay in overnight if needed....the true direlects that are homeless they ususally take to jail (if drinking or on drugs) or to an Union Gospel Mission Center. Most regular folks go to the "Warming Centers".They are showing tow o fthem, both of them young mothers with babies...one has been here 3 years trying tot get back ro Idaho..what's taken her so long is her car broke down and she has no money/no job and no babysitter if she did...and anotheri is simply an young family that's been living in their car having been evicted from their apartment for lack of paying the rent, she's jobless also. She states finding an job is an problem with no computer and no shower/laundry to keep clean for the interview...and gasoline to drive there. At any rate...everyone have an good day if possible. We have no problems in the world with an little help that can't be solved. |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 01:27 on 23rd November 2013 I'm back, with an full schedule this next coming week...I have a kitchen window to try to get fixed this weekend for the Holidays...but also have lots of cooking to do...plus have the boys all day while mom and dad are at the hospital for sissy's ear operation...and then have them Thanksgiving Day and the next day after so the kids can go Christmas Shopping, without their kids...and her ear operation is day surgery, but they expect she'll be down several days before feeling like doing much of anything....I also have my sister to pick up for Thanksgiving day dinner..probably the day before..so she'll be staying overnight. I am making extra foods for my kids to take home with them after the Holiday meal also...plus need to take my sister home also. Plus I have one Turkey Dinner to make with two pies that need baked, and rolls thawed out and cooked and an salad to make besides the Green Bean Casserole and the sausage cornbread dressing and the mashed potatoes/Gravy...the desert tray I made last week and froze it...it will go with the Strawberry Cheesecake and apple oies. it.mainkly being the cookies I mentioned last week. I also have the roast beef to make in the slow cooker...and keep the kids entertained also. Soooo...I better get at this, and see you now and then when I stop for an short break. After the dinner it's get the house decorated for Christmas. .But I think I can get it all flowing fairly well right now. Thank heavens for things like "pizza". "movies" at the theater....and amoun gall this hubby is doing the last of the popcorn sales for Scouts downstairs...he's got boxes all over the place down there right now. Holidays have officially opened and I bought an tray of Christmas cookies for the grandkids to take home after Thanksgiving dinner to munch on...wonder of they have any "hot chocolate" left at their house..Talk to everyone as I can....keep me in your thoughts..... and keep me going well...and I'm still waiting to enjoy the Season and have some good times and laughter. |
