Reading Bridge Reading Bridge was built in 1923 to join Reading with lower Caversham. Previously, there was no bridge at this point, and the nearest crossing was at Caversham Bridge, about half-a-mile upstream. The Dreadnought and Dreadnought Reach, Reading This section of the River Thames is known as Dreadnought Reach, taking its name from the old pub called 'The Dreadnought' seen at the right of the picture. Unfortunately for riverside walkers 'The Dreadnought' ceased trading as a pub many years ago and is now used by Reading University as a rowing centre. Forbury Gardens and Abbey Ruins, Reading Forbury Gardens, looking towards the Abbey Ruins. Houseboat Boat moored on the Thames at Reading This interesting looking houseboat is moored on a secluded spot along the north bank of the Thames, opposite Tesco. Jackson's Department Store, Reading Jackson's is a privately owned store and is an example of how shops must have been in the 1930's. All receipts are hand-written and your money whizzes off down a pneumatic tube to a central cash point from where your change magically returns.
