Reading Prison as seen from the Abbey Ruins HM Prison Reading is now decommissioned, but apart from the occasional exhibition, is not open to the public. Memorial to King Henry I in ForburyGardens, Reading The Cross was erected in the late 19th century to the memory of King Henry I of England, whose remains were interred at the high altar of Reading Abbey in 1136. The exact location of his tomb is unknown, following the destruction of Reading Abbey by King Henry VIII.
