Broad Street, Reading Broad Street is the main shopping street in Reading. It is now pedestrianised. Many of the shops are built within the shells of much older buildings, so at street level they seem modern, but looking above you can see the variety of architecture from previous years. Disused Swimming Pool at King's Meadow, Reading A rare view inside this Grade II listed Edwardian swimming pool, which has been closed to the public since 1973. It is now in a bad state of repair due to neglect and vandalism. A group of volunteers have proposed a plan for reopening it as a summer swimming pool / winter ice rink. The Jolly Anglers Pub The Jolly Anglers Pub on Kennet-side was built by Huntley & Palmers about 150 years ago for the benefit of the workers at the nearby biscuit factory. Kennet Mouth and Brunel's Railway Bridge, Reading This is where the Kennet joins the Thames. The bridge seen here was built by Brunel between 1839 and 1840 to carry the Great Western Railway over the Kennet. It is a testimony to the endurance of Brunel's engineering that after 170 years, the bridge is still in service today. Malmaison Hotel, Reading The hotel was built around 1840 as the Great Western Hotel to cater for travellers using the newly-opened Reading Station.
