One of my fave singer/songwriter was Clifford T Ward. One of the most underated talented blokes I know of, some of his album stuff is wonderful. I dont think our friends in the USA would know of him, come to think of it I guess not a lot in England would eather.

One of my favourite singer/songwriter is Paul Weller, and Madonna sure made plenty of money for not singing anything well, don't you think?

I was just wondering what folk from outside the UK associate with England?, I mean what do you think of when you think of England?

Also, if coming to the UK for a holiday what kind of thing (or things) are you looking for?

And one last question, for now anyway, what do you feel is lacking in England?

Actually it would be interesting to read replies from folk living here too not just non-Brits.

i hope i am doing this right,as an american living in colorado,i have always felt more British than anything.

I associate history and find it hard to believe that a country has been around for sooo long.  I find it amazing to visit Abbeys, Churches, Castles, Pubs and other buildings that date back to the 1100's, 1200's etc.  It's reassuring to hear that other people think along the same lines, I fell in love with the UK on my first visit in 93.  I aslo love the greenness that explodes across the land, the villages and the feel that life has changed in some villages still the closeness and a community that bands together - it's fantastic.  I just can't wait to experience this life when we head over at the end of the year.  The other draw card is being so close to the Continent where so much more history awaits........

Well, I am biased because I am 1/2 English and spent almost every summer there as a child, But, in my adult life I don't get there as much anymore. I do have friends that think differently and I'll weigh in on that as well.

What do I associate? First of all~descending from the air and seeing my true home, the green hills and valleys. My dear dear family~good memories, my grans fruit tarts, having buses and trains to take me just about everywhere. Fish and chips, and walking through the fens with my Uncle. My Friends: Mostly due to innocent ignorance; rain, and boring food. I always try to tell them different!

What am I looking for in a holdiay? Of course my family and my Moms hometown. But also I try to discover new parts of the country every time. I'm on a Tudor kick right now, so I guess it would be Hereford, Whitehall, the homes of Cromwell and Moore, etc.   My friends would want to do London of course and rightfully so~it's the best city on earth!!

What is England lacking? ME of course! My long term plan is to retire there. My friends have no idea what they are missing so how could they know what this blessed counntry could be lacking?
