I guess nobody wants to reveal all the details but as Diana suggests, just record how much you have lost, or what you want to do to make a difference. |

Debbie, I've been doing my own version of the low carb thing for well over a year now and have lost about 50 pounds over that time. It's been slow because I've been cheating a lot since the holidays and am finding it hard to get back to the grind stone. But if you're into low carb too, maybe we can swap a few recipes here. |

I've been struggling with my weight for ages now, but I'm really committed this time to get fit (not skinny). My goal for October 1 is to lose in the neighborhood of 40 lbs. I need to lose more than that ultimately, but it takes time to do it correctly and keep it off. I'm having a good week so far and will be at the gym tonight. I try to go 3 times a week and do a half hour to an hour of cardio (treadmill and stationary bike). I use my free weights at home for upper body strength and toning and do standing and reverse cross-crunches for abs. My biggest downfall is eating too much even though I eat healthy stuff. It's a bit like being an alcoholic I guess - one day at a time, eh? It's good to have support though. Thanks for the idea, Diana! |

There are many different versions of the diet but the healthiest by far is either "The South Beach Diet" which does limit your portions because they use low fat products which contain more sugar (When they take the fat out of food items, in order to compensate for the lack of flavor, they add sugar). However, I have had the greatest success with the "George Stella" method. If you eat strictly low carb, you don't need to count calories, only carbs. Your body's main source for fuel is carbohydrates, but when deprived of carbs your body will resort to it's second choice for fuel consumption which is fat. The trick to keeping it healthy is to keep strict watch on the carbs you consume and to be sure that you are eating a variety of approved veggies and limited amounts of allowed fruit and grains. It's also very important to take a multi vitamin and a folic acid supplement each day. As with any diet, it's a good idea to discuss what you're doing with your doctor first. I did, and my doctor has been thrilled with the results of my low carb lifestyle. My blood pressure is good, my cholesterol levels are great, and of course my weight is steadily dropping. |

They are bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, corn, carrots. There are others of course but those are the biggies! |
