I've learned that any eating plan that forbids or severely limits certain foods automatically triggers the deprivation-got to have it response. Instead of white pasta/bread/potato, etc., I go for whole grain pasta/bread and the occasional baked sweet potato, and lots of fiber from a lot of sources (fruit and veg especially). I've also found that eating a bit of lean protein along with your carb will actually slow the conversion to glucose in the body and thus doing away with the dreaded sugar spike/crash. I also limit desserts, cakes, pies, cookies, ice cream, anything that contains a lot of white sugar, to a bare minimum/occasional treat. And I'm eating smaller but still satisfying portions and enjoying nutritious snacks between meals to keep my blood sugar steady so I don't get cravings. Portion control is key as well, I think. One chocolate chip cookie, if you must have it, is far better than curling up on the couch with the entire box! |

My thing is in desparate need of encouragement to keep going. I'll be able to tell you in about one and half weeks how this last month went at "curves"...though they gave me another month for free if I want. Their thing is helping you gain muscle mass to burn food better on your own, and teach how to increase your metabolism "naturally". Monday, I did 125 windmill excerises, 10 stretches, 30 mins.continous cardio-type workout on various machines, and walked 3/4 of an mile...then came home really "tired" and got told by my family I want to "sit" to much these days, to get up and help them find an remote control Tv unit, I was broiling mad, they are the ones with the 8 hour "sitting" jobs that come home and want to "sit" and expect me to take care of the house and kids otherwise.....that's what I mean by needing encouragement sometimes... to keep going and not throw in the towel so as to say. They took my weight and inches when I started so I'll let you know at the end of the month. I have to turn it anyway for this is an national on-line "Avon" survey I'm doing also for women's fitness and "curves". I'm giving it an chance,. I've never ate so much in life, it's mostly high protein for me, low carboyhdrate. Moslty poultry followed by fish and beef/pork in low amounts. they have an program for grains if your meatless or an vegetarian. My lunch yesterday was...two eggs (or equal in egg sustitute) in 1 1/2 cups of fresh spinach, scramble until the eggs are set and top with 1/4 cup of low fat (I found fat-free) cheddar cheese..then add 2 tablespoons Salsa on top,and I had 1/2 ounce of Doritos' chips (about 5 of them) and one cup of cantaloupe cubes. Sugar-free pink lemonaide if you want also. Diana, I've never done the South Beach diet, but I take some of their advice and like their mago drink. that's zero calorie. They were the first ones to say to opt out of the "wrap" food of today, the flour torilla wrap is highly fattening, that when you go to Taco bell, get the Taco Supreme in an corn torilla and buy the pinto and beans..an forget the burritos. I've done that ever since I read that. I like it also...it was in an magazine article. Last night's dinner was 6 ozs. of baked Hickory chicken breasts (frozen) which I cut into strips and with it 2 Tbsp. Hickory BBQ sauce as an dipping sauce, one cup of steamed brocoili and an cole slaw salad of 1/2 cup of shredded cabbage.1/8 cup of shredded carrot, 1 1/2 T light mayo an 1/2 t cider vinegar, mix it up..season, but you could also add an bit of green pepper and still be not off the diet, most all their veggies in this diet are eat as many as you want without counting the calories..and it has LOTS of nuts, and even peanut butter to it also. Most mornings I have to eat my small packet of Oatmeal for breakfast, and I have yogurt "with nuts" in it or fresh fruit for snacks, or two siticks of celery with 1 T peanut butter..but this is my choice, I will alternate meals as I learn them...My last "diet" session is this Thursday, and I'd like to come home an watch the "Idol" show for it's last run of the season. She says to pay more attention on this diet on the calories, then anything else. I think if you stick ot their meals your going to be pretty much "OK" anyway. I excerised for the first time yesterday without shoes, in my socks, and my feet didn't hurt me near as bad last night. they have been swelled because ot the heat(weather) the last several days. My prime object of course is to feel better and be more fit body-wise..next to that is to get into my clothes, as I had thrown out all my old fatty clothes and bought new ones I was working to, when I regained over last winter to much weight. I am learning to buy more clothes with drawstrings at the waist these days...and go bra-less unitl I get back into my clothes again. Nope, can't fit in the new ones I had in those either. My scales say I've lost 5 pounds, I have no idea about inches, as she says the machines make you build muscle at first then with the losing weight...that down the line helps you to build up your fat burning abiltiy and increases your metabolism to burn. We will see. I know its been one bad rainy winter into Spring this year for us..so the machines help I suppose, and you have no idea what constant motion is for 30 solid minutes until you go to one of these classes, you feel like your in an whirlwind at times. (Peter..women can't go to "curves"... it's for the ladies only) |

I don't think I can unless I can drop one of these expenisve medications perhaps...get the money to join. I wsh for us that have "health issues" stuff like this were at least deductible for our health...it would greatly help. We spend about $100 an month after insurance in prescriptions costs as it is. Now they know why my credit card debt is so high...not to mention blood pressure machines are not cheap to buy either. Weight Scales. Etc. |
