It has changed since then also. but I like going back to the old ways now and then as I find they still can't be disputed as to their nutrition advice.Nice thing about weight watcher's is there's no pills to take and no specially foods...you can eat just about anywhere you go and still stay on program. BTW...good morning. |

Several more say gin soaked raisins. |

Mick: It's also osteoarthritis, thinning cartilage and the old enemy - age! It's very hilly here and that puts a lot of strain on the knees as well. New knees and hips are very common here in geriatric paradise (so many people come to retire, hence its nickname!). I want to try and avoid surgery and was also told losing weight would help and it really has. I take Glucosamine too, which my GP recommended. All the best with yours. |

I found Glucosamine and cod liver oil tabs myself, the GP said nothing about this. I am worried about the future. Knee ops are only available on the NHS when a certain criteria is met. The ways things are going will that mean severe pain and disability before we get help ? Many hospitals are using a "minium wait" before an op is given even if they do have theatre time now. Its done in the hope we die first then they save money. I am looking at my diet and will take your advice and try to lose weight. Thanks |

Whatever you can do for yourself. I heard that you should try to stay away from fresh tomatoes in your diet, but no idea how true that might be!! |
Marjorie Pope Posts: 6710 Joined: 13th Apr 2010 Location: UK | Posted at 21:12 on 9th September 2011 Mick, I must confess the future bothers me somewhat as well. I live alone on the second floor of a small block of flats, with no lift, so obviously that could cause problems at some point! Hopefully that's a long way away now that things have improved though! Actually the waiting list down here doesn't seem to be too bad judging by several of my friends. Incidentally Cathy is right about the tomatoes I think. Something to do with the acid. |

It has long been said that cooked tomatoes are better for you than fresh, can't remeber for sure, could be carotine uptake. Do you think I will be OK with tinned / cooked toms ? Cannot find a precise answer on the web. |

In fact I saw tomato sauce recommended - so you never can tell!! I was going to include potatoes then I thought - he is an Englishman and you can't take potatoes away from them, lol!! |

The fresh tomatoe problem is often mentioned. I want to be sure about the tinned variety as they are a good base for many dishes. I will be very pleased to give up red meat. Have bought tins of sardine and salmon for the Omega 3. Must do some exercise. |
