cathyml Posts: 23275 Joined: 25th Jan 2010 Location: South Africa | Posted at 16:28 on 18th November 2011 Just popping in quickly to say it looks as though we have another storm brewing this evening - maybe it won't come to anything and I will be able to join in. But if you don't see me again tonight it means we have thunder and lightning booming around us!! |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 19:43 on 18th November 2011 I'm trying to get up and " get going"... and we have snow all around us...they are opening the Skiing up at Mt. Hood tomarrow for this season. No snow here but depending on the elevation.. it's about five miles or less away right now...weather calling for mixed snow and rain through tonight. Hoping to go to the Woodburn Company Mall for their Christmas celebration and tree lightening...just called my sister and asked her if she'd like to go with us. Says she should get out of church in enough time to go. Next event I'll watch on TV..the Macy';s Parade and Pioneer Courthouse Tree lighting...hope "Occupy Portland" can take an bit of an back seat during then also...so it's peaceful. My kids have gone to it in person years past....I wonder if you can still see the names on the bricks...I bought one when I was family President of the reunion one year. Says "Austin-Larkins-Lawson on it. Been better 30 some years ago. You know "X-Factor" was getting emotional last night...as they elminate another. But "Dancing with the Stars" is down real low now also...with only an couple shows left to the winner. So hard to choose...they all have worked hard to be thier best and learn at the same time Poor little "Astro" was crying last night but so was the gal that ended up leaving. I noticed that Simon went up and hugged her and held her a bit as the show credits were going by..she was crying also...but being an " lady" about it at 42 years old...trying to hide it. I think that as we are older we have been around enough to know that most often our "dreams" arenot realized in life most the time....fro one reason or another they go sour on us. Astro gets another chance....but Simon reprimanded him about not doing his best.. right up to the last minute. I noticed he called out for his mother then. I have been with my own son many an time at such disappointments. I have dark green fir trees out my front window and I'm glad we planted Oaks trees...as God gave us something in color to keep looking outside not dark and dreary....and those same fir trees are so lovely with snow gently upon thier boughs....as soon as the leaves fall off an bit more. My cat's sleep and look outside... and probably "dream" of summer once again. Have an good day everyone! |

Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 23:09 on 19th November 2011 Me too, was up the first time at 5 am..got up the second time and ate an bowl of raisin bran and laid back down, watched the news on tv and got dressed and went an bought $100 worht of groceries in fresh fruit and snacks for the kids this week extra as the schools sure won't be feeding them...they get out Wed. for Thanksgiving Holiday...took them out there...and they do have snow on the ground...so came back an bought them new ski pants for Christmas..and an few more coats for later this spring. Youngest one had no slippers on, so I bought him some of them...and by golly they better not give them away unless they can't possibly wear them...and then I'll take them back to the store.. and get an larger size....I keep my receipts. Our oldest grandson has been outside stackign wood as grandpa splits it. Ok, I went to "Target" for thier clothes this time around....and decided that I am in no way ready to roughtit up in the Black Friday crowds as an senior citzen...even if I don't get the better prices. MOst stores though have thier things on sale before "Black Friday" and on that day they sell what's left primarily. But I wen tot the toy section lookin gfor "Tinker-Toys"...because if you buy two sets you can make more things...and so what if the dog makes an "chew stick" out of one of the pieces the sets together are still usable...nope....couldn't find anything but these very expensive complicated Lego sets that the parents must have fun building...not the kid....the kids will probably in time lose an vital piece and not be able to replace it correctly and the whole thing is out the door for the kids before they get old enough to understand how to do it themselves. better yet...they'll see to it...I get the problem somehow...so they don't have to deal it it. Ah yes, been doing that for them for years on end now. Anyway...toys are not what they use to be these days....I guess why I keep ending up buying clothes. Tinker-Toys self-teach when they are little kids....and they understand how to follow instructions, if fthey want it to turn out correctly... and don't have to be "told" when they get older to follow instructions...the same thing applies in how they learn at other things also. I had wanted to find the small radio sets that they apparently sold for self-building your own transitor radio from scratch...can't it find it either...when my son was smaller....they had small plastic ski's for kids...kind you take out in front of the house...don't have those these days....something they could stand to learn....we also bought my son an simple plastic see-through car engine...that he could put together and take apart in units...it ran off an battery. My son's lego blocks were huge ones, as an toddler from an friend and later on they were "glow in the night".. and slightly smaller until he got to the regular sized blocks. But looking at what they are selling this year for $45...it would take his parents helping them to get it built. It looked complicated to even me.I wonder if that's why more parents are going to electronics these days...they don't have the time to help the kids build this stuff. "Occupy Portland" is having an candle light vigil tonight in the cause of "universal Health Care" supposedly....if the cops don't beat thm up first trying to get to the places they are goign to meet...which the told the news media their route so the police can't change the route on them and say they created the hassel. Looking over the video ther there was no real reason that poor gal should of been shot with pepper spray...I guess an man stepped in front of her to protect her and they ended up sending him to the hospital. Not to mention that every time the police do something like this....the Atm's are being vandilized at the banks that night...but I wouldn't blame the protestors quite yet, as I would an outsider tryng to create an "riot"....between both factions....sometimes I wonder if it's not the cops themselves also. They can't be trusted at times to be non-violent and any more of an peaceful participant in all this as they protestors...who basically get arrest if not the attempted hell beat out of them for simply walking off the sidewalk....and you can see as in the case of this gal...she may of been pushed by the people behind her as much as anything.I hope this robust cop all "ansty" for an "fight" has something done like this to his daughter... so he knows how this gal's parents must feel..watching the guys trying to protect her in the video....when they saw them pull out the pepper spray. News media talked to her later on to see if she was OK... she said that it could of been worse, if not for others...and her face was still beat red colored looking. Bad policing in this case. It did not give them the citzen's goodwill badge of the day. We will see how tonight goes...and wonder if they will leave them alone long enough to do what they say what it is they want to do...march for "Universal Health Care" to an plaza and light candles and say an prayer...maybe hear an speech...peacefully. |

Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 09:35 on 20th November 2011 Will be like that here in two days....and most the week. It's been an long day...I should be asleep...but I guess I'm going to have to take Elks advice... and stop reading the paper for some peacefullness in my life. At least for an day or two and maybe it will reflect my posting here also. I highly recommend not coming to the states for an while until some of the protesting is quieted down, because they are now hauling in anyone these days. Little old ladies in Seattle that can barely walk...older men that never were into protesting to begin with and of course they are " madder then hornets" being taken in and arrested. So one protestor has an sign..."As men....even WE don' t pick on the little old ladies".... I guess I go for tonight..talk later!
