Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 02:14 on 13th November 2013 It's an speciality ham that they cut in thin spiral slices for you and you have an brown sugar glaze that goes over it as it bakes, and soaks into the outside edge of it, it's also smoked...and yes, it's quite heavenly to eat to say the least..my brother discovered them some years ago when I took one over to his house and has went bonkers ever since..he likes to make his own Baked beans to go with it...playing chef in his house. I got try that out one year delivering the ham to him. they are not like an ususal ham you buy at the store though...those we like for breakfast..or buffet plates maybe. The spiral slices are thin enough to where it all but melts in your mouth at times. Goes well with an green salad and scalloped potatoes...and yes, his baked beans...though my grandkids are more mashed potato fans....a few deviled eggs never hurt at Easter either. This has been their Christmas present from me, one turkey, one ham for the Holiday Season. I guess I'm lucky to have an small enough family to afford something of this nature...though we share with our other kin, freinds and kids usually..and those we can't pack into one house completely. Most our "kids" are about to become grandparents in another 10 years. I get tired at times, but no, I don't feel all that old.....and don' t need to either. To much left to do yet if possible. I picked up an small stuffed doggie on an sled, I think I told you about it some pages back...was wondering whom to give it to..and then I heard Steve's son.."Hunter" turned one year old this last weekend and sent it with Sarah over to his first birthday party and now he gets to start "Christmas" off this year for the kids. Steven knows I can't babysit the little kids any more...can't even be left without someone there that is old enough to call emergency if need be...with the wee ones. But that didn't stop Steven here some time back coming up and smiling at me and putting his little one on my knee...kind of an silent testament to being an "grandma" I guess. I guess he thinks I'm still "worthy" in the job. So we were out there a couple of weeks ago and he had stopped by...with his son...whom now is crawling himself into standing position all over the place, so I followed him around on the floor an little bit (hands and knees)...and Steve said "What are you doing?"...I said...well, you see, once in awhile you have to get on their level and let them show you all the sites in the room they come across.... so they know YOU care!...he just laughed. So did I...but my son an I use to have floor visitation often when he was an little kid..and sometimes with baby bunny rabbits, kittens, and puppies also. They like attention also. Well, hubby just turned in his old car..he now has his place back in the driveway with the pickup. I'm working on Lorraine's funeral remeberance stuff from Lou's funeral to get out to her...she tells me that Emily will have her baby tomarrow C-section at Portland Adventist Hospital at 7:30 am. So will wait off getting this out to her so I can hear about the new baby. I wonder if anyone took anything home to Beverly Ann Parker also from the funeral home. We never heard from her during the time we were going there... or afterwards. Time goes on. Got some painting to do yet...so thinking about setting it up tonight to do tomarrow maybe. Dancing with the Stars was an complete "shock" when Elizabeth and Val were elmininated...so now they go into the semi-finals and it was nice to see "Len" back as an judge also. They have an good set of judges, and I know they are hard on them some times...but over all..I give them an 9 plus. As hard as the contestants work at the dancing, it's very hard to tell them things they need to know to be better...as it always is in any job of judging others. Last night was though just plainly an lot of good fun in watching it. Times I never know quite what is going to happen next. I'm wondering how the Royal baby's first Christmas is coming along also. Wonder what he gets this year for Christmas...everything?,,,I can imagine being new parents that it's how they feel at the moment. Buy it now.... and share it also with the next one. My son was crazy over the muppets when he was little...he use to just burst out laughing at "Oscar the grouch"...one that lived in in the garbage can, he thought he was way funnier then even an clown at times. I had an little music box, that played the song "Music Box dancer"..and he'd be jumping up and down an swinging back an forth in his crib to that music like he was in party mode...Prince Harry would understand. Marie, an little step-daughter of my brother's back then....she came into the house at the landing and I asked her if she could hold something for me, while I put her coat away.. and so I handed her an little not to old bunny rabbit...she was SO surprised....she turned pink and blushed and said..".it's an baby bunny rabbit"!...and carried it all over my house for an while. It was smaller then most tea cups were.Though eventually she gave it up for an nap...with it's mother rabbit near by. She seemed completely content at helping me to" bunny sit" with it for an bit...It might of been 10 days old. I guessI go for now and stop my nonesence talking of the "old days" now...seems like just yesterday at times. Kid's pets, babies...they are what makes ole Santa Claus so Merry and Jolly every year I think .Most the time.... they cost very little also. to be happy. It's not until they get older they cost an "mint"...winks* |

That said Parma ham looks different to what you describe, is dry cured and effectively 'uncooked' so presumably it's more like our baked, honey glazed ham as suggested above, which does go well with baked beans although I personally think there are better ways to savour the taste! lol |

That way the 'responsible' owner wouldn't have to pick it up would they? Perhaps they should then train the animals to lift the lid of the nearby red box, do a somersault and fire it in, again without the need for human intervention. Ah, the mind boggles! At least that way those of us who don't have pet cats and dogs would'nt tread it indoors, with all the nasty pathogens that they carry. Maybe the cat in your garden would be more welcome then, whereas at the moment it's public enemy number one. Have you ever picked it up with weeds, stones, regardless of whether your hand is covered with a glove, it smells like nothing on this earth, except for cat s... that is! I reckon cat owners in particular should be held legally responsible for clearing up after their beloved cats, regardless of where they deposit it. Thinks ha.....that'll stir a few up! lol After that hi to all POEsters, have a nice poop free day! |

Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 16:20 on 13th November 2013 There is this fella that traveled the world over.. on his boat..with his dog...and he made an steel grate in the back for his dog that hung out slightly off the boat over the water, enclosed on the sides...that is where he taught his dog to go to the bathroom on the boat, droppings and anything else fell into the ocean as they traveled and was easily cleaned daily...with an simple bucket of water tossed over the steel grate. It was close enough on the bar grates that the dog never fell downward also into the ocean. Over all, it worked quite nicely. I can see where it could be adaptable over an cement street sewer type set up also...where with an small street hose the dog owner could wash the droppings down to be wisked off into an sewer pipe area...or an car wash station nearby with an similar hook-up. Kind of an pit stop for animals. Good morning...I see with our sunshine coming it will be an defineate over night freeze going on with temperatures upper 20's to 30 degrees this coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Time to have plenty of firewood around. |
