Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the "tracks" in the finished recording.

Gordon Waller (of the 60s duo Peter & Gordon) died July 17, age 64, of cardiac arrest.  They were one of my favorites back in the day; I still love their songs.

Still makes me chuckle what dear Spike Milligan had put on his gravestone when he died in 2002?

I TOLD YOU I WAS ILL!

Was thinking of guitarists often associated with Gibson Les Paul guitars. They would include---Jeff Beck ( Yardbirds), Marc Bolan (T Rex), Eric Clapton ( Bluesbreakers/Cream),The Edge ( U2), John Fogerty ( Creedence Clearwater Revival), Billy Gibbons ( Z Z Top), Steve Howe ( Yes), Paul Kossoff ( Free), Garry Moore( Thin Lizzy), Jimmy Page ( Yardbirds/ Led Zeppelin ), and Slash ( Guns ‘n’ Roses)

A true legend in his own lifetime.

I have a friend who went to one of Spike's book signings - she suffers from Manic Depression as did Spike Milligan. When he signed the book she excitedly said "We have something in common" and before she could carry on he said "What - two arms and two legs?!"
