Peter Graves (Airplane pilot) dies of heart attack

Peter Graves, the tall, stalwart actor perhaps best known for his portrayal of Jim Phelps, leader of a gang of special agents who battled evil conspirators in the long-running television series Mission: Impossible, died at 83.
Although Graves never achieved the stardom his older brother, James Arness, enjoyed as Marshal Matt Dillon on TV's Gunsmoke, he had a number of memorable roles in both films and television.
Normally cast as a hero, he turned in an unforgettable performance early in his career as the treacherous Nazi spy in Billy Wilder's 1953 prisoner-of-war drama Stalag 17.
He also masterfully lampooned his straight image when he portrayed bumbling airline pilot Clarence Oveur in the 1980 disaster movie spoof Airplane!

Let us not forget, cause its all over the news this morning, that drug rebels down in Mexico shot and killed an US consulate and his wife as they sat in their car, leaving their 1 year old baby in the back seat, and then caught up with the other one in another place and killed that US consulate also. This week is coming up on school "Spring Break" for many of the school/college students, they are putting out word to please not enter Mexico for "fun and jollies" over the Rio Grande River..stay away from northern Mexico. Stay away from the drug scene fighting.

Nobody told me that Michael Foot died. Now there's a name from politics that I remember.

Yes Sue---he died a couple of weeks ago; made all the news of course and even Maggie Thatcher---who he lost the 1979 election to--had nice things to say about him, as did many other politicians too, of course.

yes sue, as Paul says. He was a respected chap but something of the 'mad professor' about him. very much 'old labour' and not a person the 'average' voter would accept as a 'Prime Minister'. The days of the 'extreme' left or right political leader in the UK are over, todays 'leader' has to be seen to be fair to all voters, which ever party they voted for, not an easy task if you need to appear 'strong' in your leadership

Ok, I'll say it..we have an "death" of sensible public officals that think of the citizens that have to support and keep this country going  any more..its more like an bull pen of idiots in Washington D. C. any more...and has been for some time.

Was just thinking of the first time I saw Peter Graves/Peter Arness in the '50s TV show, Fury when he sort of adopts a young boy who becomes great friends with the black stallion  Fury ( real name Highland Dale ) and their adventures together around Peter Graves' ranch.
