I went thrift store shopping yesterday...was angry I could't do my walking down the street because some car had made oil spills down the street and with the rain looked like spider webs all over in slick oil. Got into town and someone had done much the same with an can of yellow paint down the street...must of needed an cup of coffee, as it stops outside "Starbucks". I got two world type cookbooks, and old one of American receipes and history, one of herbals, one on building bird houses for hubby, an puzzle of the Virgina Mary for Christmas...one on the "Wild West" Days, Chrismas Holiday book of crafts and receipes, and vegetarian cookbook, two weight watchers cookbooks, one on low calorie cooking, an small picture to hang in sissy's room, one called "Gifts in an Jar" basic receipes to make other versions using it, and also one kid's world receipe books also.So I was reading most of last night. Getting about the time to be thinking of the Holidays coming up.

I can't find anyone that knows how they use to cure an Ham in the early Virgina Days...I know they smoked them, and I know they brown sugared cured them, and then dipped them in wax, and they needed no refrigeration unless they were cut into, or the temperaturre rose over 50 degrees. Most the time they would hang them off an back porch to age... from the roof...were pretty good until Spring came around and gardens could be planted once more. This book has something similar, but not the waxing. They say to hang the Ham, plug up the bottom, soak the wood chips, fill up the cavity of the ham.. and let it smoke an few days slowly and do this several times over an month's time. But they also talk about doing an salt cure on the meat also. Oh well, just Virginia use to have an reputation for their hams done the original and traditional way.

Onto something else...we still have bird feeder to make. I saw an easy one to do...get an really big alumium can and cut both ends out and hang it sideways..you can paint it anyway you like and then cover up have the side end with something like an  half cut plastic lid, the one they showed had little lady bugs painted on the sides and an few wood dowels coming out the front where the birds could stand on them to eat. I haven't looked at hubby's book on building them as of yet. So guess I better get going for now.

I had my lab tests done this morning and had the therapist here from hubby also...so it's an "movin along" day...and "Dancing with the stars" is tonight and tomarrow and X-factor the two days after that.

What do they use for energy...having no choice to stop "moving" I guess.

Raisin Nutty Spice Bar mix....3/4 cup of golden raisins, 1 cup of salted peanuts, chopped, 2 cups of all purpose flour, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp allspice, 3/4 cup of sugar...put in an wide mouth 1 quart canning jar. Pack each layer in before adding another. to make the receipe..it makes 24 bars...preheat your oven to 375 degrees, in an large bowl cream 3/4 cup of butter or margerine, 2 eggs, slightly beaten, 1/4 cup of milk, 1 tsp vanilla...add the Raisin Nutty Spice Bar Mix..and stir until well blended...spread the batter into an lightly greased or sprayed 9 by 12 inch pan. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, cool in pan and cut into 2 inch squares.
