Unlike some of his comptemporaries such as Gene Kruppa, Buddy Rich, Louis Belson, Joe had turned down offers of big band work and joined Dave Brubeck's jazz group becomming part of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. When I was a kid learning the drums, I had an old Slingerland kit and would grab my dad's Brubeck LP's and used Joe as a sort of mentor in my bedroom drumming to my dad's records. While his solo in Take Five is suggested as one of his best, I prefer the one from the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival from C Jam Blues, witten by Duke Ellington. So my brief "career" as a high school come rock drummer of the 60s had started with jazz and listening to Joe Morello. In the family archives, I have a signed photo of him when he was promoting Ludwig drum kits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUMQ4OIe7BI&NR=1

Great times and good evenings out. Plus always enjoyed my guitars too.... as long as they're made by Fender.

Elisabeth Sladen appeared as Doctor Who assistant Sarah Jane between 1973 and 1976, opposite Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker (the third and fourth Docter). In 2007 she started here one series in the spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures. For me (as Dr Who fan) she was my all time favourite of the more than 30 assistants of Dr Who in the almost 40 years the series is running. |

Some might have heard Ronnie Verrell in later years, being the drummer behind The Muppets manic Animal. |
