I managed to clock 33 miles yesterday.  I'm not losing so much weight yet, but my muscles are toning up.

I had to take out 24 hours for some sleep/rest...Karen...how did you manage to clock in 33 miles running? ..or was this on your stationary bike?

Don't smother me much Jeanie, I'm not use TO much attention...and any help I get, I pay well for it...let them do their "job"..they are supposedly professionally trained for it.

Now let's hear from other POE diet challengers and see what they are up to..you people out there?

I am here Shirley, at least for a few minutes. lol. I wish I could report a significant change but alas this holiday weekend has been a diet blow out for me! lol.  Never-the-less, I have pulled out all of my low carb books and have reacquainted myself with the down to earth basics of the diet. I have decided that I need to get back to basics and do the first phase of the diet again (only two weeks but rather grueling for those who have never done low carb before).

This weekend of carb loading has affected me very profoundly. I have found myself feeling lethargic and blah despite plenty of rest, perfect weather, and good company. I finally realized that I have been eating more carbs (the bad kind) than normal and my body is reacting to the over load of processed sugar. I don't like the way that feels, another incentive for me to get my nose back to the grind stone. That and my starting-to-feel-snug-in-the-derriere jeans!

I have however, been very good about my exercise. I've been walking each day this weekend and am please with that.Laughing

Hopefully, next week at this time I'll have better news to report.

Let's us know what some of the bad carbs are when you find your books, that might be interesting to know and I broke my diet also..don't feel bad, but its an on going thing you know...so many birthdays around this house Diana..so many birthday's..aniversary's and what not else with relatives. we have tried to group many of them together, sometimes it works sometimes not...I need to get back "journaling" it helps me keep on track better I think...or has before.

Diana, I noticed most the gals at this place (curves) have really big stomaches that pudge out, so do I in ways, they say its when your stressed out and produce the hormone called Cortisone, but I'v e never heard anyone say how to stop it or reverse it.  They seem either real tall people with over-all body fat, or else like myself very short and stomachy types. I sure hope those cardio exercises help eliminate it. If anyone has an suggestions on this aspect, let me in on it.. Been an really long weekend, my son and I cut half an large tree type bush this morning, I cleaned off the back patio, and finishened some shopping as I'd ran out of laundry chemicals and am still going at it all from last week. Cleaned out an lot of junk around the house outside and have it ready to go to the dump here soon also. Getting more defined and organized outside. Nice days, but an bit windy in the afternoons. Made an nice dinner last night an no one was here to eat it. that's what got me off the diet, eating spoilable left-overs. My newest stragey may be to not make dinner unless they are here first and I can count on them eating it. but in the past, Ive had that go astray also. Made to much. Can't win for losing some days. Later.

Shirley, the "bad" carbs are all white breads and pastas, white potatoes, peas, corn, carrots, beets, all fruit, all sugar of any kind including honey. It's only on the first two weeks, what's called the induction phase that the diet is so restrictive. This is because you are "cleansing" your body of all sugar and toxins. Once the first two weeks are over you may reintroduce whole grain bread and pastas, and some fruits (but not all). After the first two weeks you are in the long haul of weight reduction, after you've reached your ideal weight you may incorporate other higher carb fruits and veggies that were forbidden or limited on the second phase of the program.

The South Beach Diet and Stella Style are the two low carb programs that I have used with success. Over the past year I have leaned more with the Stella Style (by George Stella) because I find his approach more live able on a day to day basis. I find it very friendly and more forgiving.

As with any diet it's best to check with your doctor to find out if this is a good one for you. My doctor has been thrilled with what the diet has done for me and encourages me to stick with it!
