Ambleside village from Wansfell Ambleside village as seen from halfway up the ascent to Wansfell Pike. Todd Crag and Loughrigg Fell rising behind leading across to Lanty Scar to the right of which you might just be able to make out a bit of Rydal Water before Nab Scar rises out of the right. Wansfell Ascent 3 Possible half way up by now and the path just carries on relentlessly upwards. Stone steps as in this shot most of the way is OK going but plays havoc with the knees coming down, which is why most people attack this walk in a clockwise direction This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Wansfell to Red Screes 3 A closer view of The Struggle winding its way up to the Kirkstone Inn at the top of the Kirkstone. The Pets Quarry can be seen in centre underneath Snarker Pike which eventually leads on to Ravens Crag and Red Screes. Still on the relatively lower slopes of Wansfell but it is pretty much as steep as this all the way from the stile in the earlier image to the top which is a good half mile and more!! But as said before, well worth the effort This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |

Wansfell towards Red Screes Here we are looking northwards from the lower levels of Wansfell. The ridge running from the left including Snarker Pike, Pets Brae and raven Crag leading on to Red Screes. You might also just be able to make out 'The Struggle' running from mid left twisting its way across to the Kirkstone Inn which is almost dead centre of the picture, just to the right of where Red Screes drops down to meet the opposing slopes of St Ravens Edge This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |

Wansfell, Ambleside Almost half a mile out of Ambleside this rather innocent looking stile shows the sign 'Troutbeck, via Wansfell' but what is does not tell you is that this stile is at approx 150 metres and the top of Wansfell Pike is shown as 482 meters on the map!! And it is a relentless climb all the way to the top, but well worth the effort as I hope you see in the other photos This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D 1 person has added this picture to their favourites |
