Two Budleigh swallows

I took this picture of two swallows then thought about calling it a "Gulp" of swallows. They were assembling with other swallows on electrcity cables spanning the River Otter at White Bridge and were swooping and diving in a Red Arrows type of display.

Budleigh Bird

This hawk was looking for his tea, hovering over Budleigh salt-pans of old at Ottermouth. He was searching for a long time but eventually flew off hungry. I think he was a kestrel.

Budleigh Bindweed

Although it looks very pretty this bindweed certainly manages to spirally bind and choke whatever it climbs. We have lots of it up and down the Otter river banks and on the East Devon country lane verges.

A Budleigh Kingfisher

Hidey BOO. Kingfishers on the River Otter are like lightening. I have not managed a decent shot of one in over 9 years. This one hid behind a branch and is possibly my best shot yet. Plenty of time but I need more patience.

Budleigh cat and dog

This confrontation did not end in victory for either party. The collie barked but the white cat ignored him before jumping down, arched his back and sauntered off at a slow pace. It was all rather amusing.

Budleigh bench

Budleigh Salterton has lots of benches placed around the district on paths, greens, hills, points of view, everywhere. The majority have plaques screwed on the backrest and on The Green area is this one decicated to Reg Varney. The way it reads is quite amusing :-)

Orange lit Budleigh trees

The trees at Ottermouth are lit in a glow of orange that begins to release ground details as the sunrise intensifies.

Ottermouth is silhouetted by the orange glow of the Sun creeping up to waken us all. The pebbles are still lit by moonlight behind us.

At sunrise the views at Ottermouth can be stunning - especially when there is a full moon setting. In this shot the moon can be seen setting in the West just as in the East the sun behind us is beginning to waken the colours around Dawlish.

The first rays of sun appear through the pine trees on Otterhead. Everything else is in shadow except for the dampness of the River Otter.

St Peter's Church in Budleigh

This is the front aspect of St Peter's Church in Budleigh Salterton. It was originally designed to have a tower but the funds were insufficient and it was not included.

High Tide

The River Otter seemed deeper than usual today, it looked so inviting to our terrier. We then realised that the tide was in, which is quite a regular thing, and put it down to "our getting older" syndrome.

Budleigh Salteton's Green

Budleigh Salterton has a central green area with many walkways and cycle lanes, keep fit equipment, trees and seats. It is an excellent area for dog walking duties.
