Getting nearer home to Budleigh the clouds were still being blown away. With the sun behind them their colours were enhanced and they didn't rain on us for a change!

Looking Westward the Sun was going down in a flash of gold and yellow clouds. It was a bit chilly but lovely to watch.

Budleigh, Dark Lane

Dark Lane, in Budleigh Salterton, is carved through rock and is deep in places. The tree roots are exposed and the trees above seem perched on the edge.

A white egret, a grey heron and a black and white magpie all trying to look in different directions and not at each other.

As Tommy Steele sang - Once upon a time there was a "little white bull." The flies appear to like him at least.

Budleigh egret

A white egret that climbs trees? I think this one must have landed here before flying to the old salt pans of Budleigh Salterton and catch his dinner.

Otter Valley

The River Otter runs from its source in Somerset through Devon to join the sea, or is it The Channel? Its valley in Budleigh Salterton is very picturesque.

The Otter Valley passes Budleigh ending at Otter Mouth. It's a very picturesque valley.

Raining at Budleigh

I was sheltering under a tree as the rain was pelting down! Can you count the drops falling on the path?

Red cliffs of Budleigh

Can you see the golf players on the green sward on the top of the cliff? Cut a ball wrongly and it could end up in the water below. Trees cling to the steep sides of the cliff and anchor themselves to prevent rocks slipping and falling. Fishing from the pebbled beach is a favourite passtime too.

Shielding Budleigh

This flat, shield-shaped bug is common throughout England and Wales, but less so in Scotland. It is bright green and stippled with tiny black dots in spring and summer, but changes to greeny-bronze in autumn. Its wing tips are dark brown.

Budleigh swimmers

Bathers swim the waters of Budleigh Salterton in November. I've heard that the sea is warmer than the air, but I've never been close enough to test. The swimmers did not go out as far as the crabbing boat which was gathering its catch.

A red rock island is a feature of Ladram Bay. The red cliff forms High Peak over which the south west coastal path passes.
