These were tall trees last week. They are now fellled and await transportation to the saw mills. Budleigh Salterton is not always a holiday town.

Fairlynch Museum

Fairlynch Museum is steeped in history. The look out in the thatched roof was used by smugglers in olden days to warn if the Customs Men were about. The Museum has many exhibits from the surrounding area.

Budleigh's red soil ploughed

The red soil of Budleigh Salterton is ploughed up by the farmer. The redness is seen in the Jurassic cliffs of Budleigh Salterton too.

Budleigh Salterton Fish sellers

Budleigh fish is fresh. The fishermen go out early and return when they've caught their lot to gut, slice and fillet and sell their catch as quickly as possible. Even the gulls know when the catch has been landed in Budleigh.

Looking Westward in the evening across the mouth of the River Exe can be rewarding for the glorious colours we get. The pebbled beach does not make for comfortable watching though!

Black swan in Ottermouth

A rarity originally from New Zealand but this "mucky duck" was at Ottermouth with his white cousins.

Although natives of New Zealand black swans are to be seen in England, possibly as escapees. Here is one gliding in the Otter Mouth at Budleigh Salterton with a mute swan in company
